Christ with Martha and Mary, Flemish school, 17th century, oil on canvas, measures 96.5×130 cm
The subject of the work is the evangelical episode that tells the visit of Christ in the home of Martha of Bethany and her sister Mary. In the Gospel according to Luke, it is told how the two sisters welcome Jesus in the house, but while Marta deals with domestic affairs, Mary sits down to listen to the word of Jesus. Martha complains about Jesus, but she replies: “Martha, Martha, you are worried and you act for many things, but only one is the thing you need. Mary has chosen the best part, which will not be removed. ”
In fact, in our painting, both women sit next to Christ to listen to His Word.
